Another very busy weekend.

Yet another busy weekend with no day off again, the grandchildren are driving us both mad as they have been here over a week.

Now I’ve had very little practice with children of any age, let alone the younger ones and the only conclusion I can come to is that pretty much I don’t like them.

Why in hells’ name are they unable to do anything without making a noise and why when they eat cake do they leave most of it plastered around their face.

I’m sure when I was a child we wouldn’t have been allowed to do such a thing, perhaps we were spoon fed until a much later age.

Whatever happened to the children should be seen and not heard idea that was so prevalent when I was a child, we were never allowed to speak to a grown up unless they spoke to us.

I know to young people it must seem like the dark ages but I’m  sure it worked, it did instill in us a sense of discipline and respect, oh the good old days. You know you’re getting old when you start speaking like that!

I was rather hoping we might find time for sex, somewhere in our busy schedule but for the moment it seems to have been put to the back of the list, it’s a shame Angella and I are so single-minded as we have things to do and they will get done at all costs.

In the earlier part of our relationship before I moved here it was much better, but that was because we spent much more time at my house, still I’m sure when we have got on top of the jobs we will get back to normal.

The one good thing then will be, that the more work I’m doing here the fitter I’m becoming, so I’m rather hoping to become a sexual athlete.

I did notice in the mirror as we went to bed last night that I have become a lot more toned than I was, it’s not quite a six pack but it’s getting there.

I have so much to be thankful for here, at home I had to pay the gym for a workout, now I get a free one every day, talking of which.

I have this morning brought wood for both fires, filled the coal buckets up, taken Diane to the station at the crack of dawn, ran around pushing our other son to get ready for school and fed the dogs and cat and even found time for a bit of animal behaviour training.

I am delighted to report that as I speak the cat and dog are in the same room both asleep which I feel is a major achievement due in no small part to my time gradually introducing them to each other and letting them get closer every time. Barbara Woodhouse, eat your heart out!

Well that’s it for now we have work to be done, Angella is still in bed I need to wake her and I have a cunning plan.

Yesterday I plumbed in the two washing machines we are moving in the house and moved them singlehandedly, now you know how I’m getting so fit.

She was very pleased with my efforts yesterday so I just thought, if I go and wake her now we could share a bath and who knows, one thing leads to another, ever the eternal optimist!

About The Diary of a Country Bumpkin

I am a retired actor, althought to be honest I only retired because I wasn't getting any work and the option of becoming an unemployed actor/waiter at my age was ludicrous, especially as my waiting skills are non existant. I spent many years looking after my aged mother who had dementia, hence the lack of acting work but shortly after her death I was lucky enough to run into an ex girlfriend of many years ago and our romance blossomed once again. My move to the countryside inspired me to write The Diary of a Country Bumpkin which if I had the time would be updated on a much more frequent basis, however country life and children seem to be a full time occupation. I enjoy writing, see my play Dulce Et Decorum Est Pro Patria Mori on The Wireless Theatre Company and am very fond of classic cars so my ideal occupation would be acting in a film I had written set in the 1930s/40s, we live in hopes. That's all for now, toodle pip.
